Barry Goldwater Scholarship Application NOW OPEN
CFSA is excited to announce that the 2020 application for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship is now open!
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship is designed to attract outstanding students into careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit to students who are sophomores or juniors during the current academic year and who have excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in and potential for research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Goldwater Scholars intend to pursue higher education and a career in the STEM fields. Nearly all recent Goldwater recipients intend to obtain a Ph.D. Actual award amount depends on financial need. The scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board to a maximum of $7,500 per academic year. Note: The Goldwater scholarship is intended for students planning careers in research (Ph.D.), rather than careers as practicing medical physicians or clinicians.
Syracuse University may nominate four students to compete for the national scholarship (or five, if one of the nominees is a transfer student). Students with strong academic and research backgrounds are encouraged to apply. A faculty selection committee will identify the nominees whose applications are most likely to fare well in the national competition.
The internal campus deadline is November 21, 2019! Reach out to CFSA’s director, Jolynn Parker, if you are interested in applying. She can be reached by email (jmpark02@syr.edu) or phone (315-443-2759).
