picture of dark space horizon over earth with words "Astronaut Scholar Technical Conference"Laurel White,  a senior physics major and mathematics minor in the College of Arts and Sciences and 2019 and 2020 recipient of the Astronaut Scholarship, recently participated in a virtual presentation of her research with her fellow recipients at the 2020 Virtual Astronaut Technical Conference, presented by the Michael Collins Family Professional Development Program. The conference ran from 4:00-6:30pm on the evenings of August 20th and 21st. According to the program’s website, “The virtual event, hosted by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, [showcased] the brilliant research of this class of Astronaut Scholars.”

Laurel presented a presentation titled “The effect of spin priors on masses recovered from binary neutron star gravitational-wave signals,” research she has conducted with Professor Duncan Brown in Syracuse University’s Gravitational Wave Group. Congratulations, Laurel!
