Three Syracuse Students Receive Prestigious Boren Awards for Language Study Abroad

Three Syracuse University students have been selected to participate in the Boren Awards, a national scholarship provided by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office within the Department of Defense.

Boren Awards provide up to $25,000 for undergraduates and graduate students to pursue international critical need language study. This year, all recipients are students in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the College of Arts and Sciences pursuing careers related to national security. Two students will be attending Boren's Flagship Program for the study South Asian languages, and one student will be pursuing Arabic language study in the Middle East.

In exchange for Boren's support, students agree to serve for one year with the federal government in a position related to national security upon completion of their academic studies.
