Roughly 80 first- and second-year students joined Dr. Ruth Chen, Chancellor Syverud, and the staff of the Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising for a reception at the Chancellor’s residence on January 27, 2020.

Students first listened to a presentation on fellowship and scholarship opportunities by Jolynn Parker, CFSA’s director, followed by a question and answer session with current students who have worked with CFSA to apply for nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships.

When asked by one attendee what advice they would have for students when it comes to identifying opportunities, Santita Ebangwese ’19 ‘G20, a semi-finalist for a Fulbright Research grant and a 2019 NCAA Award recipient, said “read your emails and go see the staff at CFSA! There were opportunities I learned about only too late after realizing I hadn’t opened an email and made an appointment with CFSA.”

Kyle Rosenblum ’20–Syracuse University’s first Schwarzman Scholar–noted that he had attended this event 3 years prior. A sentiment echoed by all of the panelists was that it’s never too early to identify opportunities for which you might like to apply.
