Some of SU’s distinguished guests…

…have interesting links to nationally competitive scholarships!

Nicholas Kristof gave the commmencement speech for our May 2013 graduates and encouraged them to “find some issue that resonates with you, that you care about, and then work to get engaged in it.” You can read the text of his speech here: http://news.syr.edu/commencement-speech-by-new-york-times-columnist-nicholas-kristof-54504/

Did you know that Kristof was a Rhodes Scholar? He studied law at Oxford University. Here’s a video of Kristof discussing the Rhodes Scholarship: http://vimeo.com/11052279

Senator George J. Mitchell is coming to SU in November to give a talk as part of the University Lectures. The prestigious Mitchell Scholarship is named after George Mitchell’s leadership in facilitating peace negotiations in Northern Ireland, culminating with the historic Good Friday Agreement. Mitchell Scholars complete one year of graduate study at any Irish University.

Check out his lecture on November 12th: http://lectures.syr.edu/pan-am-103-and-our-world-25-years-later
